Ghanaian political candidates campaign for party leadership roles

Candidates for leadership positions within Ghana's major political parties have begun outlining their visions and motivations.

Awentami Paul Afoko, a candidate for the National Chairman position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has campaigned across the Western, Central, and Eastern Regions. Running on his ‘3Rs Campaign Blueprint’—Reunite, Rebuild, Recapture Power—Afoko expressed optimism that the party will return to government within two years. He emphasized the necessity of party unity and the strengthening of grassroots structures to prepare for the 2028 general election.

In the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Akwasi Oppong-Fosu has addressed criticisms regarding his bid for National Chairman. Rejecting claims that he is seeking the role merely for political visibility, the former Minister of Local Government stated that his participation is driven by a desire to provide substance rather than personal glory. He noted that his four-decade political career demonstrates a focus on service rather than the pursuit of the spotlight.
