New Patriotic Party prepares for national elections and leadership contests

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is preparing for its national conference and elections scheduled for October 3, 2026. The National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC) has announced that the event will begin with constitutional amendments at 9:00 a.m., followed by the election of nine national officers at 12:00 p.m. The Electoral Commission will supervise the process, which includes voting across 31 polling stations. Delegates are required to present valid identification, such as a Ghana Card, Voter ID, or NPP party card, to participate.

Internal discussions regarding party cohesion and leadership are prominent ahead of the vote. Political analysts have suggested that the party's flagbearer should lead the party to ensure stronger unity. Meanwhile, various candidates are campaigning for key roles. John Boadu is positioning himself as a candidate with the institutional experience necessary to lead the party back to victory, while others, like Kwabena Abankwah-Yeboah, emphasize the need to restore trust among the grassroots following the 2024 general election.

Efforts toward reconciliation are also underway. Charles Owusu Juanah noted that former National Chairman Paul Afoko has begun engaging with opposing factions to build a united front for the 2028 elections, aiming to address internal divisions and reintegrate disgruntled members.
