Ghanaian regional ministers call for fiscal discipline and accountability
In the Eastern Region, Minister Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey has instructed all 33 Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) to develop realistic 2027–2030 composite budgets. These budgets must adhere to approved expenditure ceilings, revenue projections, and public financial management laws. The Minister emphasized the use of the GIFMIS Budgets Module to ensure compliance and requested that budgets be finalized for submission to the Ministry of Finance by November 4, 2026.
In the Upper East Region, Minister Donatus Akamugri Atanga urged the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly to ensure public spending delivers tangible benefits in education, healthcare, sanitation, and infrastructure. During an accounting-to-the-people session, the Minister called for increased public scrutiny to improve transparency. Local officials reported progress on various community projects, including the construction of classroom blocks, toilet facilities, and health compounds in areas such as Yorogo, Agusi, Sawaba, and Tanzui.
