Ghanaian religious leaders weigh in on education and politics

Religious leaders in Ghana are voicing various political and social concerns. St Sark, the General Overseer of Open Arms Ministries, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to abandon plans to introduce Chinese and Arabic into the basic school curriculum. St Sark argued that adding these languages would overburden students and could lead to a brain drain, suggesting Spanish as a more viable alternative for international trade and diplomacy.

In a separate matter, St Sark also criticized Prophet Isaac Owusu Bempah for allegedly threatening to spiritually curse voters who support the New Patriotic Party (NPP). St Sark described these threats as baseless attempts at spiritual intimidation and accused Owusu Bempah of being a ‘political prostitute’ due to shifting political prophecies.

Additionally, Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng, founder of Power Chapel Worldwide, has defended his close friendship with former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Boateng stated he is willing to face imprisonment rather than distance himself from the Bawumias, asserting that maintaining a friendship is not a criminal act.
