Ghanaian student Mercy Yaaba Bredu dies in China

Mercy Yaaba Bredu, a first-class graduate and former Vice President of the Association of Students of English (ASSENS) at the University of Education, Winneba, has died in China.

Bredu departed Ghana on August 24, 2026, to pursue a master’s degree and explore opportunities in the import and export industry. Reports indicate she experienced heart pain during her flight. Upon landing in China, she reportedly collapsed at the airport while receiving flowers. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital for medical intervention, she passed away on August 26, 2026, just two days after her arrival.

Her death has caused significant grief among her family, friends, and the academic community at the University of Education, Winneba, where she was recognized for her leadership and academic excellence.
