Ghanaian tricycle rider sentenced to 14 years for defiling child
Naah Mashood, a 29-year-old tricycle rider, has been sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment with hard labour for the defilement of a three-year-old girl in the Wa Municipality of Ghana’s Upper West Region.
The incident occurred on February 23, 2026, at Tiegber. According to the Upper West Regional Police Command, Mashood had been contracted by the child’s parents to transport her to and from school. Instead, he allegedly took the girl to an isolated location and sexually assaulted her inside his tricycle, locally referred to as a Cambuu.
Mashood was arrested on February 24, 2026, by the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) following a report from the victim’s mother. After being arraigned in the Wa District Magistrate Court, the case proceeded to the Wa High Court. On October 30, 2026, Justice Osei-Wusu found the defendant guilty and handed down the sentence.
