Ghanaian women graduate in coding under AGCCI initiative
A total of 150 women from Ghana's Ashanti, Central, and Western Regions have completed digital and coding training under the African Girls Can Code Initiative (AGCCI). The graduation ceremony, held in Kumasi, celebrated participants from various sectors of the informal economy, including fashion design, catering, hairdressing, healthcare, and engineering.
The initiative is a partnership between the Government of Ghana and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), implemented by the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC). Unlike previous programs like Girls-in-ICT that focus on school-aged children, this program targets adult women to help them bridge the digital gender gap and scale their businesses.
The curriculum provided hands-on training in computer programming, data analytics, cybersecurity, graphic design, website development, and digital marketing. These skills are intended to help entrepreneurs manage orders through digital platforms and reach wider markets through e-commerce.
