Ghana's Accra‑Kumasi Highway Blocked by Truck Crash at Birimso Bridge
A heavily loaded articulated truck collided with the Birimso Bridge on the N6 Accra‑Kumasi Highway on Saturday, July 18, completely blocking traffic in both directions. The Ghana Police Service deployed officers from the Eastern South Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department in Kibi to manage the scene and began clearing the wreckage.
To ease congestion, police instituted temporary diversions: vehicles headed for Accra were rerouted through Kibi at Nsutam, while those traveling toward Kumasi were redirected via Apedwa. The diversions took effect at 10:00 a.m. The police urged motorists to follow directions and remain patient while recovery teams work to remove the truck and reopen the highway. No cause of the crash or casualty information was immediately released. The Accra‑Kumasi corridor is one of Ghana’s busiest routes, linking the capital with Kumasi and serving thousands of commuters and commercial vehicles each day.
