Ghana's Afenyo-Markin urged to apologise to staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah

Deputy Director of Operations at the Ghanaian Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to ask its Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo‑Markin, to apologise to presidential staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah for remarks that described her as “nobody” during the party’s protest at the Jubilee House. The comment was made publicly while Jantuah was receiving the NPP’s petition on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama.

Jantuah responded that she would not have been offended if the remark had been made privately, but was hurt by the public nature of the criticism. She questioned why the Minority Leader chose to voice the comment in front of journalists and argued that the focus should have remained on the issues raised in the petition rather than on the individual receiving it. Afenyo‑Markin had argued that assigning Jantuah, a lower‑ranking official, to receive the petition was disrespectful to the party and that a higher‑ranking representative should have been sent.
