Ghana's Climate Minister Calls for Mandatory Climate Resilience in Public Projects

Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability Seidu Issifu told Ghana's Parliament Assurance Committee on July 9 that climate considerations must become a mandatory component of all public infrastructure and development projects. He said each project should have a clear climate dimension during planning, design and implementation to reduce flood risk, attract climate financing and generate carbon credits. Issifu urged Parliament to scrutinise the climate implications of proposals before approval, arguing that this would help Ghana meet its 1.5 °C target, improve resilience to climate‑related disasters and create opportunities for cheaper blended financing. He also highlighted the need for locally‑led adaptation measures tailored to individual communities, especially those affected by illegal mining and environmental degradation.
