Ghana's DVLA opens new Salaga office and seizes 85 cloned vehicles
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) commissioned a new operational office in Salaga, East Gonja Municipality, to provide local vehicle registration and driver‑licensing services. MP Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah said the facility will cut travel time and costs for residents of Salaga South, Yapei‑Kusawgu and surrounding areas, and is expected to boost local commerce.
Separately, the DVLA’s clone‑detection system, introduced in May, has led to the impoundment of 85 illegally imported vehicles, most of which originated from Togo. CEO Julius Neequaye Kotey explained that the seized cars are being handed to the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority for duty payment before they can be legally registered. The authority also warned about misuse of defective vehicle plates and urged owners of pre‑2023 registrations to complete the onboarding process.
