Ghana's Economy Stabilises Amid Youth Job Demands and Slow Infrastructure Growth
Interviews with three young Ghanaians indicate that macroeconomic management has helped stabilise Ghana's economy, with praise for Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson’s fiscal discipline. They stress that the next test is translating this stability into tangible employment opportunities and improved daily living conditions.
The Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) warned that construction growth was only 1.3% in the first quarter of 2026 and capital expenditure was 41% below target, suggesting the government’s ‘Big Push’ infrastructure programme is progressing slowly. ISSER attributes the weak performance to continued fiscal restraint and calls for greater investment in productive infrastructure to support growth and job creation.
