Ghana's Inaugural Company Secretaries’ Summit Emphasizes Governance as Value Creation

The maiden Company Secretaries’ Summit, organized by Mindful Governance, was held in Accra, Ghana, gathering company secretaries, legal counsel, board directors and senior governance professionals from the public, private and state‑owned sectors. Under the theme “Governance as Value Creation”, speakers highlighted the central role of company secretaries in improving board effectiveness and corporate decision‑making. Catherine Engmann, founder and managing director of Mindful Governance, said the event will become an annual fixture for Ghana’s governance community. Registrar Maame Samma Peprah noted that artificial intelligence can strengthen compliance monitoring but cannot replace professional judgement. Karl George, founder and CEO of Governance AI, delivered a keynote on responsible AI use in governance. The summit concluded with awards recognizing six professionals, including Helen Amponsah Asare (KGL Group) and Paulina Akosua Danso (The Royal Senchi) as Company Secretary of the Year (Private Sector).
