Ghana's MIIF collects GH¢7.82bn in mineral royalties

Ghana's Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) reported collecting GH¢7.82 billion in mineral royalties during the first nine months of 2026. This represents a 106 per cent increase compared to the GH¢3.79 billion recorded during the same period in 2025.

The surge in revenue is attributed to rising international gold prices, the implementation of a sliding-scale royalty mechanism, sustained production levels, and enhanced monitoring of mining operations. Large-scale gold mining was the primary driver, contributing GH¢7.66 billion, a 116 per cent increase from the previous year. Mid-tier gold mining also saw significant growth, with royalties rising to GH¢110.34 million.

While quarry and sand royalties increased, limestone royalties declined to GH¢4.84 million due to heavy rainfall disrupting production in the second quarter. MIIF Chief Executive Officer Justina Nelson stated that the Fund aims to meet a year-end target of GH¢9 billion and will continue to invest in the mining value chain to support national development.
