Ghana's New Patriotic Party projected to stay in opposition until 2040

Political commentator and former MP Martin Kpebu said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will remain in opposition for the next two decades, predicting a 2040 end date. He made the remarks on TV3’s “Key Points” programme, adding that an increasingly non‑aligned middle class would take over administration after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) leaves office.

Kpebu’s forecast comes amid intensifying competition between the NPP and the NDC ahead of the 2024 general election, internal party disputes, and Ghana’s broader economic challenges, including high inflation and currency pressures.
