Ghana's NHIA Boosts Provider Payments and Calls for Better Health Communication
Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, chief executive of Ghana's National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), highlighted the importance of effective public‑relations and accurate health messaging in improving preventive care and public confidence. Speaking at the World Public Relations Day Festival, he urged communication professionals to combat misinformation and engage communities to support universal health coverage.
The NHIA also announced a disbursement of GH¢219.84 million to credentialed healthcare providers across the country, bringing its total claim payments for the year to nearly GH¢1.2 billion. Private facilities received GH¢98.24 million, public facilities GH¢80.86 million and mission‑based facilities GH¢40.70 million. The payment aims to strengthen the financial sustainability of providers and ensure uninterrupted services for National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) members.
