Ghana's Technical University Administrators to Resume Indefinite Strike over Unpaid Allowances

The Technical Universities Senior Administrators Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) announced that it will resume an indefinite strike starting Monday, 20 July 2026. The action will affect all ten technical universities across Ghana, disrupting finance, admissions, examinations, human‑resources and other administrative services.

The strike is a response to the government's failure to pay a negotiated one‑time research allowance and to implement an interim allowance agreement. TUSAAG says the research allowance was promised for payment by 30 March 2026 and then by the end of April, but neither deadline was met. An earlier strike, suspended on 22 December 2025 after assurances from the Minister of Education, was also triggered by the same unpaid allowances. The union also notes a 40 % increase in consolidated non‑basic allowance agreed with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, originally set for 1 April 2026 but delayed to 1 July 2026 without explanation. TUSAAG says the continued non‑payment constitutes a breach of agreement and demonstrates a lack of respect for senior administrators in Ghana’s tertiary education system.
