Ghana's VRA chief urges smarter power systems for 24‑Hour Economy

Volta River Authority CEO Edward E. Obeng‑Kenzo said reliable electricity, renewable integration and digital transformation are essential for Ghana’s ambition to run a 24‑Hour Economy. Speaking at the Ghana Institution of Engineering’s lecture series, he highlighted emerging technologies such as battery storage, intelligent grid management and digital monitoring platforms as key to providing continuous power for factories, hospitals, data centres and industrial zones.

Obeng‑Kenzo also called on engineers to lead the country’s industrial future, tasking them with designing factories, power systems, transport networks and digital infrastructure, reducing technical losses in the power sector, and helping solve recurring flood problems. He urged the engineering community to become a think‑tank that offers evidence‑based policy advice and a long‑term roadmap for infrastructure planning over the next decades.
