Ghana's Youth Employment Agency announces job placement success and allowance increase
The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has achieved a 100% job placement rate for the 1,000 beneficiaries of its Northshore Garment Project. This initiative, a partnership with Northshore Apparel Ghana Limited, focuses on training young people, particularly women, in industrial garment production. Following this success, CEO Malik Basintale announced plans to double enrollment to 2,000 beneficiaries in 2027.
Additionally, the YEA has increased monthly beneficiary allowances by 60%, raising the amount from GH¢500 to GH¢800. This adjustment aims to improve the welfare of participants and assist with daily living expenses. As of September 30, 2026, the agency has recruited 100,628 beneficiaries, reaching 75.7% of its annual target of 133,000.
To further its impact, the YEA is considering legislative amendments to its enabling law, the Youth Employment Agency Act, 2015 (Act 887). The goal is to position the institution as Ghana’s primary employment corridor for the mainstream workforce.
