Ghassan Abu Sittah Foundation launches medical training for Gaza doctors
The Ghassan Abu Sittah Children’s Foundation has launched the ‘Restoring Care’ program to provide clinical training for Palestinian doctors from Gaza in Lebanon and Turkey. The initiative aims to counter the destruction of the Palestinian healthcare sector by supporting postgraduate clinical training in priority specialties.
In Lebanon, the program has begun with three residents training in emergency medicine and psychiatry at the American University of Beirut Medical Center and the Lebanese American University Medical Center - Rizk Hospital. The Lebanese track aims to support up to 15 residents over five years.
In Turkey, the program plans to support up to 500 residents over five years, starting with an initial 186 seats agreed upon with the Turkish government. This track, implemented in cooperation with the Council of Higher Education in Turkey, will provide 50 to 60 seats annually for doctors currently in Gaza.
Dr. Ghassan Abu Sittah stated that the program is designed to protect a generation of doctors and ensure the continuity of medical knowledge following the loss of approximately 1,700 healthcare workers in the Gaza Strip.
