Ghatkopar Police seek action over Dahi Handi stage blocking road

Ghatkopar Police have requested the Mumbai Municipal Corporation to take immediate action against a Dahi Handi festival stage being constructed in the middle of a road in Ghatkopar West. The structure is being erected for an event organized by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) at the Amrit Nagar Circle.

While the police had previously issued a ‘no-objection’ certificate on the condition that pedestrian and vehicular movement remains unobstructed, an inspection on September 3 revealed that the stage is being built directly in the middle of the road. Authorities expressed concern that the structure could completely block a proposed 90-foot wide road leading to the Sagar Park building.

Police officials warned that such an obstruction could prevent emergency vehicles, including ambulances and fire engines, from reaching the area during a crisis. They also noted that necessary approvals from the Vikhroli ward officer and the fire department had not been obtained prior to the construction.
