GHATSEA petitions President Mahama over GCAA labour dispute

The Ghana Air Traffic Safety Electronics Association (GHATSEA) has petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to intervene in a long-standing labour dispute at the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

In an open letter dated September 1, 2026, GHATSEA accused GCAA Director-General Rev. Stephen Wilfred Arthur of using intimidation, coercion, and victimization against staff representatives. The association claims that disagreements over working conditions and staff welfare have created an atmosphere of fear within the Authority, hindering constructive dialogue.

A primary point of contention is the continued interdiction of GHATSEA President Engr. David Annan Mensah. Mensah has been away from his role since March 3, 2026, following allegations that he threatened industrial action. GHATSEA described this interdiction as “unjust and disproportionate.”

The association warned that declining morale and strained relations between management and employees could negatively impact productivity and the overall efficiency of Ghana’s aviation sector.
