GHMC faces advertising revenue gaps and worker protests

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is facing significant financial and labor challenges in Hyderabad. The civic body is struggling to recover approximately Rs 39.74 crore in unpaid dues from outdoor advertising agencies. This substantial revenue gap has raised concerns regarding the effectiveness of the corporation’s monitoring and enforcement systems for billboards and hoardings.

Simultaneously, GHMC workers staged a protest near the Telangana Legislative Assembly to oppose the proposed privatization of waste collection services. Protesters expressed concerns regarding job security and working conditions, demanding that civic services remain under the management of GHMC employees. The demonstration led to police intervention and the detention of several workers after attempts were made to block roads.
