GHMC recovers Rs 6.83 crore in duplicate payment case
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has recovered Rs 6.83 crore following the detection of duplicate and excess payments made to contractors for various civic and infrastructure projects.
A preliminary enquiry by the GHMC Vigilance Wing identified discrepancies across 78 ERP invoices totaling approximately Rs 6.92 crore. GHMC Commissioner R. V. Karnan stated that the corporation has already recovered Rs 6,83,75,773 from 74 invoices, with the remaining Rs 8,35,661 received via demand drafts.
The discrepancies were discovered through internal financial controls and an ERP software upgrade. The issues were linked to the Trade Receivables Discounting System (TReDS), where a software update following the trifurcation of the GHMC allegedly failed to properly reconcile certain amounts drawn for emergency purposes.
