Global environmental shifts and Middle East oil export recovery

Global environmental and economic shifts are highlighted by record glacier melting in Switzerland and a recovery in Middle East oil exports. Swiss glaciers lost over 5% of their volume in 2026, with approximately 2,200 billion liters of water melting between July and September due to extreme heat and low snowfall.

In the energy sector, JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs report that Middle East crude oil exports have recovered to approximately 17.5 million barrels per day, reaching 98% of pre-conflict levels. This recovery is supported by the restoration of Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline and stabilized flows through the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, Vietnam faces significant domestic challenges from heavy rainfall. In Hanoi, the Song Day irrigation system has suffered subsidence and landslides, prompting urgent repair requests. In Quang Ngai, riverbank erosion along the Tra Khuc River is threatening residential areas, while in Lam Dong, vehicle traffic has been banned on Gia Bac Pass to facilitate repairs following major landslides.
