Gia Dinh People's Hospital performs emergency surgeries for two testicular torsion cases
Doctors at Gia Dinh People's Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City successfully performed emergency surgeries on two young men suffering from testicular torsion within a single night. Both patients sought medical attention during the critical six-hour window, allowing surgeons to preserve their testicles.
The first patient, a 28-year-old man, arrived at the hospital's main facility at 0:30 AM following intense pain in his left scrotum. Surgeons found the left testicle had turned purple due to lack of blood flow, but after untwisting the spermatic cord and applying warmth, blood circulation was restored.
The second patient, a 20-year-old man, arrived at the hospital's Saigon facility at 2:33 AM after being woken by sudden, severe pain. Having researched his symptoms online, he recognized the signs of torsion and sought immediate care. His left testicle was also found to be discolored from reduced blood flow, but was successfully preserved through surgery.
In both cases, doctors also performed procedures to fix the opposite testicle to prevent future torsion. Both patients were discharged after two days of treatment and were advised to follow up in three to six months to monitor reproductive function.
