A serious bus accident occurred in Gia Lai province at approximately 03:10 on August 31, 2026, resulting in at least 4 deaths and approximately 20 injuries. The vehicle, a Viet Tan Phat sleeper bus, was traveling on a bypass road connecting National Highway 19 and the Ho Chi Minh Road toward Dak Doa.

Preliminary investigations suggest the driver, Nguyen Canh Ha Long, lost control due to heavy rain, thick fog, and mud overflowing onto the road surface from clogged drainage systems. Authorities noted that the accident took place on a section of the bypass that has been completed but not yet officially handed over for management to local authorities. The road was under the jurisdiction of Project Management Unit 2 of the Ministry of Construction.

Following the incident, the Prime Minister issued an urgent directive to address the consequences, requesting local authorities to prioritize medical care for the injured and investigate the responsibilities of the road management and transport entities. The driver was taken into criminal custody for investigation. Testing confirmed the driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
