Gia Lai food poisoning: Over 100 hospitalized after eating banh mi

Over 100 people have been hospitalized in Gia Lai Province, Vietnam, following a suspected mass food poisoning incident linked to consuming banh mi.

Patients reported symptoms including abdominal cramps, diarrhea, repeated vomiting, and fever after eating sandwiches purchased from Bin Bin Shop, located at 1041 Quang Trung Street in An Khe Ward. According to Nguyen Thanh Diep, vice-chairman of the An Khe Ward People’s Committee, approximately 105 individuals received emergency treatment at the An Khe Medical Center. While most patients are reported to be in stable condition, some young children have experienced high fevers.

Local authorities have ordered the business to suspend operations temporarily while an investigation is conducted. Officials have collected various food samples, including pâté, cold cuts, shredded pork, herbs, and sauces, for testing to determine the exact cause of the illness.
