Gia Lai girl dies from rabies after untreated dog bite

A 9-year-old girl has died from rabies in Canh Vinh Commune, Gia Lai Province, after failing to receive vaccinations following a dog bite. The incident occurred approximately two months prior, around June 10, when a local dog bit the child on the heel and scratched her face.

On August 9, the child was admitted to the Gia Lai Provincial General Hospital exhibiting symptoms of advanced rabies, including high fever, hydrophobia, aerophobia, photophobia, and panic. She passed away at the hospital on August 10.

Local health authorities have begun tracing and isolating individuals who had contact with the victim to prevent further spread. This marks the third recorded rabies death in Gia Lai Province since the beginning of 2026.
