Gia Lai police warn of Zalo and Facebook impersonation scams

The police in Vietnam's Gia Lai province have issued a warning about a new fraud scheme that uses the messaging apps Zalo and Facebook. Scammers pose as government officials, sending fake invitations, online registration links or requests to update land, identity or administrative records. Victims are asked to provide personal details such as full name, birth date, ID number, phone, address and bank account information. The fraudsters then request OTP codes or other verification numbers, use them to transfer money and steal funds from the victims' bank accounts.

Authorities advise the public not to click unfamiliar links, not to share passwords or OTP codes, and to verify any official notices directly with local offices. If personal data or an OTP has been disclosed, people should immediately lock their bank accounts, report the incident to their bank and file a complaint with the nearest police station.
