Gia Lai proposes pilot drone taxi program in Quy Nhon - Phu Cat

The Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee has submitted a proposal to the Prime Minister to pilot unmanned aerial mobility (AAM/eVTOL) services within the Quy Nhon - Phu Cat cluster. The project aims to establish Vietnam's first low-altitude aviation transport model to boost tourism and technological development.

The proposed pilot is scheduled to run from October 2026 through 2028, divided into three stages: preparation and assessment, unloaded and expert-carrying test flights, and finally, limited passenger transport. The plan includes two primary routes:

1. A 3.4km route connecting Children's Park to the Marina to test technology, operating systems, and emergency response protocols. 2. A route connecting Phu Cat Airport to the Blooming Sky Project concert center to test airport-to-destination connectivity.

The province is collaborating with the Vietnam Aviation Academy and various partners to develop the scheme, emphasizing that all operations must strictly adhere to national defense, security, and aviation safety requirements.
