Gia Lai hosts Jrai community ritual to celebrate new communal house
The Ia Gri village in Gia Lai province, Vietnam, held a traditional ceremony to celebrate the completion of a new communal house (nha rong). The event, held on October 31, 2026, serves as the opening for the 2026 Gong Festival, Wild Sunflower Week, and Chu Dang Ya Volcano festivities.
The new communal house was constructed with over 3 billion VND in investment from the provincial People's Committee and community contributions. The ceremony featured the traditional buffalo sacrifice ritual, a significant practice for the Jrai people to express gratitude to the deities (Yang) for prosperity and peace.
Local officials, including Gia Lai Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh Lich, attended the event. The initiative aims to preserve Jrai cultural identity and promote local tourism by showcasing traditional architecture and heritage to domestic and international visitors.
