Gia Lai rural infrastructure projects face cement supply delays
The rural transportation concreting program in Gia Lai province, supported by over 1,100 billion VND for the 2026–2030 period, is facing significant delays due to cement supply issues. Despite the availability of budget and local readiness, the delivery of cement has failed to meet the optimal construction windows.
During a provincial People's Council session, officials noted that cement supplies often arrive during the rainy season rather than the dry season, making construction difficult and potentially affecting project quality. Delays have been attributed to slow registration of needs by local communes and lengthy administrative processes for planning and procurement.
The Department of Finance reported that it was tasked with procuring over 76,500 tons of cement. While the bidding process is underway with results expected in mid-September, the mismatch between the procurement timeline and the seasonal requirements for construction remains a critical bottleneck for rural infrastructure and irrigation canal projects.
