Gian van Veen expresses frustration over lack of titles after semi-final exit
Gian van Veen, the world number three, expressed frustration following his semi-final exit at the World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam. The 24-year-old Dutchman was defeated 8-11 by Ross Smith.
Van Veen noted that he felt a lack of energy during the evening session, stating that he felt “empty” as early as his hotel room. Despite a quarter-final victory over Dirk van Duijvenbode, he was unable to sustain his performance against Smith, where his scoring average dropped to just over 85.
The player admitted that his recent pattern of reaching deep stages in major tournaments without securing titles is weighing on him. He remarked, “Winning too few titles as world number 3 is something you want to put right,” noting that while he has reached many semi-finals, he has only secured two titles to date.
