Italy prepares budget maneuver amid economic uncertainty

Italian Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti has signaled a cautious approach to the upcoming budget maneuver, describing a "storm on the horizon" due to geopolitical tensions, rising raw material costs, and high interest rates. Giorgetti emphasized that the government must balance political objectives with social stability and fiscal prudence, noting that Italy's high public debt necessitates careful management of interest rate impacts.

The proposed 23.5 billion euro maneuver aims to provide targeted support rather than universal measures. Key proposals include tax deductions for companies hiring young workers under 35 and new mothers to stimulate employment. Additionally, discussions are underway regarding tax reductions for workers under 30, a potential renewal of the "mamma bonus," and healthcare support for citizens over 75.

While the government seeks to implement these measures, it is currently awaiting final clarification from the European Union regarding the margin allowed by the deviation clause. Meanwhile, banking leaders from Intesa Sanpaolo and Unicredit have expressed concerns regarding institutional reliability and the existential threat posed by the rapid growth of Big Tech companies.
