Brazil judicial rulings: Sentences for feminicide, homicide, and false accusations

Various judicial proceedings in Brazil have resulted in significant sentences and investigations. In Arapiraca, José Aneildo de Melo was sentenced to 28 years in prison for the brutal feminicide of his partner, Ana Cláudia Alves Xavier, involving the use of a knife and a hoe.

In Rio Grande do Sul, Giane Alves Santos was sentenced to two years of imprisonment, later substituted by community service, for making false accusations of aggression against state deputy Leonel Radde. The court found her claims were incompatible with forensic evidence.

Other notable legal developments include the conviction of Celso da Silva Alves to eight years for the homicide of Moacir Pereira de Sousa in Poção de Pedras. In Goiânia, a dentist, Renata de Almeida Pedreira e Sousa, has become a defendant in a qualified homicide case involving the death of journalist Delson Carlos.

Additionally, the National Council of Justice (CNJ) has opened a disciplinary process against Judge Olair Teixeira Oliveira Sampaio for allegedly using misogynistic language and humiliating a victim of attempted feminicide during a hearing in the Distrito Federal.
