Gianluigi Buffon returns to high school to earn legitimate diploma

Gianluigi Buffon, the legendary Italian goalkeeper, has announced his decision to return to high school at age 48 to complete his education. The former Juventus and Italian national team captain has enrolled in the Marconi Joint Institute to earn his diploma through a distance learning program designed to accommodate his ongoing professional commitments.

Buffon stated that the decision stems from a desire to correct a mistake made during his youth. He admitted to having purchased a high school diploma when he was 18 years old, a move he described as a “wrong shortcut” that he has never been proud of.

By returning to the classroom, Buffon aims to set a positive example for his children and challenge the prevailing stereotype of professional athletes neglecting their education. He expressed that he is pursuing this achievement for himself, his parents, and to demonstrate that academic success should be earned legitimately.
