Gianni De Biasi reflects on historic Albania football success

Former Albania national team coach Gianni De Biasi has shared insights into his tenure with the team, specifically highlighting the historic qualification for Euro 2016. In an interview with the Italian media outlet Tuttomercatoweb, De Biasi recounted how a disappointing experience at Udinese led him to seek opportunities outside of Italy.

He revealed that despite interest from Lecce for a role in Serie A, he chose to honor his commitment to the Albanian football federation. De Biasi credited a significant portion of the team's growth to the inclusion of players from Kosovo, who were able to represent Albania at the time because Kosovo was not yet recognized by FIFA. He noted that integrating these players improved both the quantity and quality of the squad, helping to foster the belief that extraordinary achievements were possible.
