Gianni Infantino invited to CAF Strategy Conference in Cape Verde

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has been invited by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to attend a two-day Strategy Conference in Cape Verde on October 7 and 8. The invitation, sent to 54 member association presidents, follows previous suggestions by CAF President Patrice Motsepe.

This endorsement comes as Infantino prepares for a potential challenge to his leadership during the FIFA presidential election in Rabat next March. While his proposal to sell up to a 20% stake in FIFA competitions to private investors faced strong opposition from UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation, and CONCACAF, CAF has expressed support for his presidency.

Africa’s 54 votes represent a significant portion of the 211 member associations. Following the conference, a review of the 2026 World Cup is scheduled for October 9, led by FIFA’s Arsene Wenger, with national team coaches from every African association invited to attend.
