Gianni Infantino misses World Cup third‑place match due to New York storm

Heavy thunderstorms and rain in New York on Saturday prevented FIFA president Gianni Infantino from traveling to Miami for the World Cup third‑place game between England and France. In an Instagram video Infantino said, "I should be in Miami for the third‑place match between England and France, but the weather here does not allow us to fly."

Infantino had been in New York for a joint appearance with U.S. President Donald Trump at a FIFA reception. Instead of flying to Miami, he watched the final between Spain and Argentina from the stadium in East Rutherford, near New York. The storm also caused numerous flight cancellations and, after recent Canadian wildfires, temporarily improved air quality in the region. Fans expressed concern on social media about missing the match.
