Gianni Infantino rejects resignation amid FIFA support

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has declined to consider resigning following the failure of a proposal to introduce private investment into commercial rights through the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) entity. Despite opposition from major confederations such as UEFA and CONCACAF, Infantino maintains he has significant global support.

Patrice Motsepe, president of the African Football Confederation (CAF), reaffirmed support for Infantino, describing him as a loyal friend. Additionally, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), led by Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, has also signaled its support, a shift that leaves European football organizations increasingly isolated in their opposition.

Infantino is seeking a fourth term, which would extend his leadership until 2031. While he apologized for how the FFE proposal was handled during a recent FIFA Council meeting in Zurich, the stances of major European associations, including England and Germany, remain unchanged. Potential candidates for the presidency must submit their nominations by November 18.
