Gianni Infantino seeks fourth FIFA presidency term

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has announced his intention to run for a fourth term, claiming he holds the support of a “vast, vast majority” of the world’s 211 member associations. His bid follows a period of controversy surrounding the abandoned FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) project, a proposal to involve private investors in the commercial rights of major competitions.

Infantino’s position was bolstered by a recent endorsement from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) president, Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa. While Infantino noted strong support from Africa and Asia, the endorsement has faced criticism from Jordan Football Association president Prince Ali bin Hussein, who accused the AFC congress of being used for political campaigning and lacking transparency.

Opposition remains, particularly from UEFA, which has submitted 42 questions regarding FIFA’s management and is considering an alternative candidate for the March election. The nomination deadline for the presidency is November 18.
