Giannis Antetokounmpo traded to Miami Heat in blockbuster NBA deal

The Miami Heat officially acquired two‑time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and forward Bobby Portis from the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday, completing a multi‑asset trade first agreed in June. In exchange, Milwaukee received guard Tyler Herro, center Kel’el Ware, forward Jaime Jaquez Jr., guard Kasparas Jakucionis, the 2026 first‑round pick Nate Ament, additional first‑round selections in 2031 and 2033, a 2030 pick‑swap and a 2033 second‑round pick.

Antetokounmpo posted an emotional farewell video, saying “the city of Milwaukee will always be in my heart” and describing Milwaukee as his home and family. He reflected on the franchise’s 2021 NBA championship, his personal awards and his deep connection with the community, while acknowledging the uncertainty of change.

Bucks general manager Jon Horst thanked Antetokounmpo for his historic contributions—he leaves as the franchise’s all‑time leader in games, points, rebounds, assists and blocks—and said the return of Herro and the draft assets give Milwaukee a solid foundation to rebuild around youth. The Heat, meanwhile, view the acquisition as a major step toward contending for another title.
