Giannis Antetokounmpo joins Miami Heat in blockbuster NBA trade
Greek forward Giannis Antetokounmpo has been traded to the Miami Heat, ending a 13‑year stint with the Milwaukee Bucks. The deal, described as one of the most significant NBA moves in recent years, sent a large package to Milwaukee that included guard Tyler Herro, forward Kostas Giakouzonis, forward Haime Hakes, center Kel Warr, three first‑round draft selections (2026, 2031, 2033) and a 2033 second‑round pick.
Antetokounmpo will join Miami on his existing contract, which pays $58.45 million for the 2026‑27 season and carries a player option worth $62.79 million for 2027‑28. He can exercise that option on Jan. 6, after which he may either opt out and sign a four‑year extension valued at about $275 million, or stay in and sign a three‑year deal worth roughly $214 million.
The Heat plan to build their roster around Antetokounmpo, with the contract discussion slated for after the season, while the Bucks look to rebuild using the assets acquired in the trade.
