Giannis Korkas, historian and chronicler of Kozani, passes away
Giannis Korkas, a prominent figure in the history, folklore, and social life of Kozani, has passed away. Born in 1932, Korkas dedicated much of his life to documenting the history, traditions, and people of the Kozani region through extensive writing and journalism.
Korkas was a prolific contributor to various publications, including the newspaper ‘Makedonia’, and served as a correspondent for several sports and general interest newspapers in Athens and Thessaloniki. His work focused on preserving local customs, historical events, and the social fabric of his community.
Beyond his journalistic pursuits, Korkas was an active citizen who served the Chamber of Commerce of Kozani as a board member and as General Secretary under the presidency of ‘Gkoutiou’. He was also recognized for his contributions to local sports. In recognition of his lifelong service to the community, he was previously honored by the municipal authorities.
