Giannis Maniatis urges EU action to protect Christians in Jordan

European Parliament member Giannis Maniatis has called on EU Commissioner Kaja Kallas to implement specific initiatives to protect Christians and their places of worship in Jordan. This request follows a bloody terrorist attack at the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint George in Al-Hamoud, Al-Karak, which occurred during a religious service.

Maniatis, serving as Vice-President of the S&D Group, emphasized that the attack is a direct assault on religious freedom and peaceful coexistence. He is requesting immediate measures in coordination with Jordanian authorities and the Patriarchate of Jerusalem to protect believers and support those affected.

Furthermore, he proposed utilizing European funding tools to prevent extremist attacks and called for a dedicated initiative with a clear timeline to ensure the security of Christians and other religious minorities in Jordan.
