Greek artists pay tribute to late singer Giorgos Mazonakis
Greek musical figures have held emotional tributes to the late singer Giorgos Mazonakis, who passed away at age 54.
During a concert in Thessaloniki on September 19, Giannis Parios paused his performance to honor Mazonakis. Parios revealed that the song ‘Pote Pote’ was originally written for Mazonakis after the singer requested a song. Although Mazonakis did not hear it in time, he later expressed a desire to perform it himself. Parios described Mazonakis as a ‘wonderful, honest child’ and performed the track as a final tribute.
Separately, at the Positive Energy Day 2026 event at Plateia Nerou, singer Anastasia paid tribute to Mazonakis. She invited Andreas Karantinis to the stage with Mazonakis’s last bouzouki, leading the audience in a sing-along of the hit ‘Ores Mikres’. Anastasia, who noted that Mazonakis was a significant influence during the early stages of her career, described him as an ‘autodidact star’.
