Gianpaolo Balzano elected President of AISP
Gianpaolo Balzano has been elected President of the Italian Association for the Study of the Pancreas (AISP) for the 2026-2029 term. The announcement was made during the association's 50th National Congress in Bergamo.
Balzano, an associate professor of General Surgery at the University of Insubria and head of Pancreas Surgery at the Ospedale di Circolo in Varese, succeeds Silvia Carrara. Roughly half of patients present with metastases at the onset of symptoms, and only 20% are diagnosed at an early stage that allows for surgical intervention.
