Gianpiero Strisciuglio appointed UIC vice‑president and confirmed as Europe region head
Gianpiero Strisciuglio, chief executive and managing director of Italy’s state rail group Ferrovie dello Stato (FS), has been appointed vice‑president of the International Union of Railways (UIC). He was also confirmed as president of the UIC’s Europe region for the 2026‑2027 mandate.
In his new roles, Strisciuglio will steer the UIC’s work on the Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS), Railway Ontologies for data sharing, and initiatives to boost network capacity and operational performance. He said he is “deeply proud of the appointment… and sees high‑speed links and an integrated, interoperable, sustainable rail network as a great opportunity to bring people and economies closer.”
