Giant Chile en Nogada Returns to Mexico City as Feria de la Nuez Opens in Amecameca

A giant version of the traditional Mexican dish chiles en nogada, weighing more than one kilogram, is back on the menu in Mexico City. Prepared during the August‑September season, the oversized chile follows the classic recipe of meat filling with dried fruits, nuts and spices, topped with walnut‑based nogada sauce, pomegranate seeds and parsley, echoing the colors of the national flag. Restaurants warn that the dish is available only for a short window and advise diners to book early due to high demand from locals and tourists.

At the same time, the Feria de la Nuez 2026 is taking place in Amecameca, State of Mexico, from 12 to 16 August. The fair showcases freshly harvested Castilla walnuts, a key ingredient for chiles en nogada, alongside food stalls, artisanal crafts, mechanical rides and free concerts featuring Los Askis, Los Cardenales de Nuevo León and Kalimba. Family‑friendly activities include a free athletic race and a pet‑run. Both events celebrate the seasonal culinary heritage linked to the Mexican flag and the harvest of walnuts.
